09 December, Brussels -- IOM and EU officials met today as part of a series of regular cooperation meetings to continue dialogue on pressing EU and global migration and governance issues.

Representatives from both sides convened at the IOM Regional Office in Brussels to discuss forced displacement and development, implementation of outcomes of the Valletta Summit and Western Balkans Conference, IOM-UN relations, and IOM’s migration governance framework.

As the fourth consultation at the Heads of Unit/Division level held under the EU-IOM Strategic Cooperation Framework, which was established in July 2012, the meeting brought representatives from the EU External Action Service and the European Commission’s DG HOME, DG DEVCO, DG ECHO, and DG NEAR together with IOM representatives from Geneva Headquarters and the Regional Office in Brussels.

The ongoing EU-IOM Strategic Cooperation meetings allow for a formal exchange views and identification of mutual priorities on current and future challenges in the field of migration. The meetings also foster dialogue and cooperation on key policy issues, best practices, and operational initiatives.

DG NEAR participated in today’s meeting for the first time and engaged in preparations for the next EU-IOM Senior Officials Meeting which is scheduled for February 2016.
