Berta FERNANDEZ ALFARO
Berta is the Senior Project Manager for the EURCAP Facility since 2016. Previously, Berta spent 12 years in Latin America, the Caribbean and North America, where she worked for IOM in San Jose, Washington DC and Nicaragua. During that period, she built capacities of governments and civil society and implemented programs on issues such as trafficking in persons, mainstreaming migration into national development plans, labor migration/mobility of workers, remittances and diaspora, and return and reintegration.
Berta also managed an EU‑funded regional program to promote gender sensitivity migration policies with the International Labour Organization and lectured on EU Migration and Asylum Law and contemporary migration issues across the Mediterranean at the Institute for European Studies (University of Malta). She provided advice for the Intercultural Cities initiative of the Council of Europe, ‘EUROsociAL’ program on integration, and the Intra‑ACP Migration Facility.
Berta holds a Masters Degree in European Community Law from the Autonoma University of Madrid, and a Law Degree from the University of Valencia (Spain) and the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz (Germany).
