Geertrui provides policy guidance on labour migration, migrant integration, and the linkages between migration and development.
Before joining the IOM Regional Office in Brussels, Geertrui was based in the IOM Regional Office in Dakar where she advised governments and civil society on labour mobility and human development issues throughout west and central Africa. In this role, she successfully led the multi‑stakeholder platform (FMM) to provide technical assistance, capacity building support and comprehensive policy renewal that encouraged responsible migration management throughout the region.
Prior to joining IOM, she worked as a Human Rights Specialist for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Uganda and as Adjunct Advisor for the Belgian Federal Ministry of Justice.
Geertrui holds a Masters in Law from the University of Leuven.
