Cooperation between the EU and IOM in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) primarily supports regional initiatives and emerging migration and displacement priorities.

Current regional cooperation includes social inclusion of Venezuelan migrants in host communities in South America and the Caribbean, and continued support in immigration and border management across the sub-region.

Over the past years, IOM, in partnership with the EU, has been working on strengthening Latin America's development and security through the EUROFRONT programme.

Together with UNHCR and UN-Habitat, IOM implemented the initiative Inclusive Cities, Communities of Solidarity, which sought to reduce the vulnerabilities of refugees and migrants and increase the resilience of host communities in six Latin American countries and Caribbean.

Past regional cooperation has also included a joint support programme for the EU-LAC Structured Dialogue on Migration and the African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) Observatory for Migration.

Our regional priorities for strengthening collaboration with the EU include forced displacement and development, the migration-security nexus, migration and climate change, and migrant protection and assistance, including in the context of the Regional Response to the Venezuela Situation
